The SA Champs is one of the biggest events on the schools’ cycling calendar, drawing in hundreds of athletes from across South Africa. Riders compete in age categories that test both skill and endurance on technical mountain bike courses. For many, it’s the highlight of the year and for our team, it’s the result of months of preparation, hard work, and dedication.

For some of these riders, it will be their very first taste of the national stage, while others have built up valuable experience at provincial and inter-school events. What unites them is the determination to test themselves against the country’s best.

Coach Adele shared her pride in the team:“These riders have shown real commitment and growth throughout the season. From early mornings on the bike to balancing school and training, they’ve pushed themselves and supported one another. It’s a privilege to see them reach this level, and we’re excited to watch them take on the national stage.”

Behind every rider is also a strong support system of families, schools, and the wider Free State cycling community. Their encouragement plays a huge role in getting young athletes to the start line of events like this.

Bike Ed Academy has been working closely with these athletes as part of our mission to grow youth cycling in Bloemfontein and the Free State. While results will matter on race day, the real victory lies in the experience, resilience, and friendships the riders will carry forward.

As the team heads to Piet Retief, they carry not only the Bike Ed name but also the pride of the Free State with them. We wish them strength, focus, and joy out on the trails.
